Learning and training events
Whether it is a more formal training session or an informal learning event you need, Just Ideas can provide a programme that inspires, encourages and leaves people with a sense of achievement and a plan of action. We deliver training on processes such as engaging volunteers, community participation, partnership working, embracing diversity, and action learning events on issues such as sustainability, climate change, and community planning. The approach is about starting where participants are, using their experience, and drawing in our subject expertise and that of others as appropriate. We produce worksheets and handouts so participants have something to take away or access online to continue the learning. We ensure that the learning continues outside the session by building relationships with and between participants so they can support each other informally as peers after the session. Recent examples include:
- Facilitating Model UN Climate Conferences for schools, running parallel to the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties that happen every November/December. Held in Council Chambers, groups of students take on roles of different countries negotiating deals on carbon emissions and funding for climate change adaptation. Just Ideas, as part of InterClimate Network team, are the Chair and Committee Staff, encouraging debate and attempting to reach a resolution.
- In partnership with WSA, we recently developed and facilitation Growing Community Leadership training for Big Local areas, which was a resounding success.
- Just Ideas is part of the delivery team of the highly acclaimed Your Green Futures conferences – an initiative of Severn Wye Energy, and now in the fifth year of delivery. Across the South West and West Midlands it is a careers conference with a difference – where 500 students over two days participate in workshops and activities designed to open their eyes to the importance of sustainability in every career pathway. Just Ideas facilitates the workshop on Your Business Future – encouraging systems thinking and considering social, economic and environmental implications in the design and development of products.
- Just Ideas, often with partner company Nature Nurture or Creatrix, have a history of being contracted by Reading Borough Council to develop and facilitate fun awareness-raising activities for children and adults on issues such as fair-trade and climate change using interactive games at community festivals such as Forbury Fever
