Who we are

Erica Purvis

Associate

Erica is a sustainable designer, engineer, mentor and facilitator. She blends technical design and life cycle thinking with behavioural change, circular business models, system thinking and strategy for sustainable innovation. She founded Studio Technical Nature in 2014 as a sole trader, combining these perspectives.

As a Just Ideas associate, she often collaborates on sustainability focused projects, designing and delivering research, engagement and strategy for communities, climate and wildlife. Examples of these include, co-facilitating the Model UN Climate Conferences, co-ordinated by the Inter Climate Network for schools and young people and co-designing and facilitating the Berkshire Local Nature Recovery engagement plan and workshops.

Erica has also co-founded Design Nature CIC, a social enterprise that works on empowering young people through sustainable design skills for themselves, each other and the planet. She is a Fellow of the RSA, Visiting Professor for Glasgow School of Art and the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Design Council, Design for Planet Expert.

She advocates for invisible and rare diseases, supporting endometriosis awareness and volunteering with the Pituitary Foundation. Active in her local community, Erica volunteers with and is a former director of Reading Hydro CBS, co-ran the local Circular Economy Club, and contributes to the local Climate Emergency Strategy.
